Italian courses in Mantua, in the former Archbishop's Seminary on Via C. Montanari — a 4,000 m² historic building in the centre of a UNESCO Renaissance city, a short walk from the Duomo and Piazza Sordello. Mantua is small, deeply Italian, and almost devoid of an English-speaking expat scene — which is why it is the right city for students who want full immersion without distractions.
What makes Mantua at Accademia di Italiano different
A building purpose-built for study
The former Archbishop's Seminary on Via C. Montanari. Stone walls, courtyard, classrooms that have been spaces for serious study for centuries. The environment does half the work of focusing students.
A city of 50,000 people, walkable end to end
No metro, no traffic chaos. Everything is fifteen minutes on foot. Students live in the historic centre because there is no alternative — and that's the point.
Genuine immersion, not staged
The barista, the shopkeeper, the landlord, the neighbour — none of them is going to switch to English to make your life easier. In Mantua, Italian is not optional after the first week.
Excellent weekend connections
Direct trains to Milan (1h45), Verona (40min), Bologna (1h15), Modena, Parma. Full focus during the week and a different Italian city every weekend.

Is Mantua right for you? An honest answer
Mantua is the right choice if (a) you have already started learning Italian and want to break the English-default habit, (b) you want low cost of living during a long stay, or (c) you are a faculty member who wants your students out of the tourist-heavy cities on purpose. Mantua is the wrong choice if you want busy nightlife, a large international student community, or to be one short walk from the Uffizi every afternoon. We'll tell you that on the call, not after enrolment.
Mantua-specific pathways
CILS preparation in immersion
The combination of structured CILS prep and a city where you cannot drift back to English produces some of the strongest exam results we see.
Long-stay academic year (Sep–Jun)
A full academic year of Italian in a low-cost Renaissance city — popular with gap-year students preparing to enrol at an Italian university the following year.
